Day 18 Winners:

The Liberals.

Martin had the best debate of any of the four leaders. He had the best moment, (The attack on Duceppe when he mentions his kids) The best rebuttal, (When he shot down Layton's idiotic corporate tax cut line) and the most effective attack. (The Stephen Harper Notwithstanding Clause)

The only other leader to have such a good moment was when Harper got that softball question on the GST. Martin has the better policy but he looked unprepared on that one.

Layton said "Elect more New Democrats" so many times I started a drinking game halfway through taking a small sip whenever he said it and was hammered by the end. He sounded desperate.

Martin won this debate, and he also beat expectations. The Unity answer was enough to win it for him, but he also had other good moments as well.

Totals
Liberals 10 (Days 1,3,5,6,10,11,15,16,17,18)
Conservatives 7 (Days 2,4,7,9,12,13,14)
NDP 1 (Day 8)

Wow, I can't imagine why anyone would think you're not intelligent.

I disagreed with Harper when he said no one was more frustrated with MPs switching parties than he. After Belinda Stronach switch parties I am sure that Peter McKay was VERY frustrated.

I would give it to Layton since his party has been falling in the polls and becoming more and more irrelevant, so by attacking the Liberals including his comment on the rise of emissions, he made the party relevant again. He was also smart to go after the Liberals rather than Conservatives as that is where he will gain votes, not from Conservative voters. I would give Martin a close second since although I felt he was a little over aggressive, he did deliver a knockout punch to Gilles Duceppe on the National Unity issue. It is just too bad he didn't say the same thing in the French debate as I think this would have really helped the Liberals in Quebec had he done it in French. Stephen Harper did an okay job keeping his cool and the fact he spent little time attacking Martin and instead left that Duceppe and Layton was probably wise as he needed to shed his image of a angry man. Duceppe did not a bad job, especially considering he was the only one who was speaking in his second language.

Yeah, I agree I wish Martin had said that the night before. But luckily there is still another French debate, one that probably far more people will be watching. Now that he knows people respond to that he can do it more in the far more important upcoming debates
