As most of us Liberals have known for a long time Stephen Harper's dream is to be George W. Bush's northern lap dog, he wants to mould Canada into the perverted image of Bush America. But after failing so many times he and his reform pals know they can't go it alone, so they've enlisted the aid of far right crusaders close to President Bush from the United States.
Dr. Reed, who was also the senior adviser to the campaign of U.S. President George W. Bush and executive director of the Christian Coalition
"Come Jan. 23, there's going to be a new Canada of conservative traditional values,"
"We're not trying to change a church into a political party, and we're not trying to change a political party into a church, but if the people of the church don't get involved, somebody else will."
"This last government has been a wakeup call for Canadians of faith,"
"we want to shift the centre of gravity in this government."
And here's the kicker...
Several Toronto-area Conservative candidates were in attendance, including Jim Flaherty, John Carmichael, Rondo Thomas, Michael Mostyn, and Tim Dobson.
To all of us who don't want to see Canada end it's long history of moving forward in time instead of backward this is a horrible thought. For me Dubya has always been at least tolerable because he wasn't the leader of my country. I always had an enlightened, progressive leader to fall back on. If Stephen Harper and the Conservatives win this election Canada will never be the same again. The sins of George W. Bush will repeat themselves here in our country. As Canadians we, rightly or wrongly, like to think of ourselves as more enlightened than our neighbors to the South. Polls have consistently shown that Canadians don't support President Bush, his values or his policies; yet some of those same people support Stephen Harper, who would bring the same horrible values and policies to Canada. For those of us who see this coming it's a terrible feeling, but all we can do is our best to try to protect Canada from those who would pervert it into America North.
I know others have posted this story, but I urge you to post it on your blog if you haven't already. I also urge you to tell it to everyone you know who's considering voting Conservative. If we don't we may lose Canada forever.

Dammit. I was going to post the exact same thing after finding out about Reed's appearance in Toronto last week to whip up the fundies.
Oh well, I'm still going to anyway. :-) Check out my blog sometime... http://redtory.blogspot.com/
Some people might call this "fear mongering" but I believe stories like this give many of us entirely justifiable cause to be concerned. HIGHLY so, in fact. The neo-cons south of the border would like nothing more than to have a reactionary right-wing government in Canada that would acquiesce to its corporatist objectives under the guise of Christian "morality."
