Someone's Lying at CTV

Not that that's all that surprising considering CTV now stands for Conservative TeleVision as seen here by their new logo.

Please feel free to spread this article around as much as you can, this needs to get out.

But now instead of just suspecting that they're being less than honest I have proof. Exhibit A is the video of ATV's Steve Murphy explaining their thought process before airing the Dion smear.

At 47 Seconds in Murphy says
"And the Liberal campaign was anxious that this exchange not be broadcast, and initially we indicated that it would not be."
P.S. to CTV, don't worry I've downloaded that video so if you get it removed from YouTube I'll just put it up somewhere else.

Now Exhibit B, an article in Yesterday's (Monday, October 20) Halifax version of the Metro (Page 8) by Vice President and General Manager of CTV Atlantic Michael Elgie which I scanned so you can all see. First, here's the whole article for context.

And now the pertinent part zoomed in.

And finally the highlighted text for those of you who may be image challenged due to being at work or something.

"Contrary to widely circulated reports, Steve Murphy did not make a promise to M. Dion to not broadcast the false starts, nor was there a commitment to M. Dion or representatives of the Liberal Party that what happened before or after the interview was "off the record."
So here we have Steve Murphy saying "initially we indicated that it (the interview's false starts) would not be. (broadcast)" and then we have Michael Elgie of CTV saying "nor was there a commitment to M. Dion or representatives of the Liberal Party that what happened before or after the interview was "off the record."

Oops.

The biggest problem with lying is keeping track of the lies and truths you've told so that you don't end up contradicting yourself.

Which one of them is lying? Does it really matter? If I had to guess I would say it's Elgie, but either way CTV is trying to cover their ass. It's too bad we don't have a Canadian version of Keith Olbermann to bring this to the light of day, hopefully enough Liberal bloggers will care about this story to get the attention of someone in the media. Also I think I'll email it to the Toronto Star since they're on the good side.

Dion's a clown. Just face it and realize this guy couldn't run a corner store let alone Canada.

Imagine Dion beside Harper and Obama or McCain.

I mean , come on.

The election's over, you lost and shooting the messenger is not going to bring you any more seats. While you're at it, why not blame every media outlet for the last election because they had the nerve to report on a bunch of Liberals raiding the public purse for their own party? The Sponsorship Scandal should never have been reported. It should have been swept under the rug. Those damn newspapers and TV networks are just out to get the Liberal Party.

I felt sorry for Dion too, he was in soooo over his head.
Guess that's why Liberals call his election the 'Montreal Mistake'.

As usual only the Cons will defend CTV. A station well worth never watching. I am still spreading the word on their disgusting set of so called ethics. You couldn't pay me to turn on my TV and watch the network now.

And they wonder why people mistrust journalists. It's things like this that makes the public suspicious of them.

For as long as I can remember, CBC has been a Liberal mouthpiece. All you have to do is look at the Airbus affair (Mulroney was cleared by investigators but CBC won't take their word for it), Krista Erickson feeding questions to Liberal candidates and the list goes on and on. And how many ex CBC employees have become Liberal candidates? Now CTV plays a Dion blunder and Liberals are ready to execute anyone involved with the CBC. Maybe it's the Conservatives time to get a break from the media.

And finally, CTV can do whatever they want because they are a private corporation. They don't flock to the public trough and gouge taxpayers like the CBC.

Look Conservative Alliance guy, er I mean prairie kid, I have no problem with places like Fox News that are so blatant with their bias that there's no doubt in anyone's mind. What I have a problem with is places that try to hide it like CTV and Global so that people think they're getting the truth. I don't really see the CBC as being biased but then again I'm a Liberal so I'm willing to admit that they may well be, and I don't condone that either.

I just wish that CTV/CBC/Global/et al would either go completely unbiased or completely biased, none of this pretending to be clean when they're not.

And as for your whining about us going after CTV all I ever hear is about how much Conservatives would like to dismantle the CBC because it's a Liberal mouthpiece.

I tend to believe Conservative's definition of Liberal Bias is any media outlet that doesn't spout their talking points like Fox News. If you're not a far right media outlet you have Liberal bias. Take out the I and the A and you'll see what I think of that argument.

CTV and CBC are both shamefully biased, and both try to present themselves as truthful.

It's funny to watch people arguing over how their side isn't biased -- I love how HisHighness is willing to maybe consider that CBC is biased, but he just can't see it. It's as brilliant as conservatives railing about CBC but ignoring CTV.

You guys are an entertaining bunch of wrestlers, and it's a free spectacle - keep it up!

There's a big difference between having a political slant... which all media seem to have... and a network essentially harpooning a leader with a complete non issue just days before an election.

CTV should be ashamed.
